FIGHTING AGAINST INCOME HOUSING DISCRIMINATION

Lawmakers in Kentucky are looking closely at the rights of tenants and landlords. Fahe’s Andrew Bates highlights concerns about protecting the rights of tenants who use federal or government assistance vouchers.

According to WKYT’s recent coverage of this issue Bates said:
“It’s of particular concern that many of our veterans in Kentucky depend on housing choice vouchers. As written this bill would prevent a community from requiring property owners to accept those vouchers from homeless veterans.”

Fahe Member Appalachia Service Project benefited from a recent fundraising effort that encouraged casual wear as a reward for donations.

According to WCYB Appalachia Service Project was delighted to receive the donation:

“Oh, it means the world to us,” Appalachian Service Project’s Carson Tucker said. “Because it is an answer to our prayers. It’s an answer to the prayers of the folks that we’re so lucky to serve. SERCAP SELECTED FOR PRESTIGIOUS IEDC PROJECT

According to a recent SERCAP newsletter, the organization has been selected as a host community for International Economic Development Council (IEDC) Economic Recovery Corps’ inaugural cohort.

SERCAP’s article explains that the Economic Recovery Corps (ERC) Fellowship program aims to build capacity in economically distressed areas across the U.S. while cultivating the next generation of economic development leaders. From a pool of over 500 host applications, SERCAP is one of only 65 host sites selected to receive help in advancing a project critical to the economic recovery of the region. The “Rural Economic Ecosystem Services” initiative led by SERCAP aims to address regional challenges in rural communities of Eastern Maryland and Southside Virginia.
