For the past two summers I have been an AmeriCorps Member at a site that is similar to ASP called Appalachian Outreach (AO). At AO I was on the home repair team, but I also did some work with the kids club and in the food pantry. I have always heard that about ASP and how they are very similar to AO. One thing that I can relate to right away is the fact that both of the organizations serve families in Cocke County.
I love working for ASP. I love being in Johnson City! I have never been here before and I am slowly falling in love with it. The people here are great and so far I have been doing work that goes right along with my major. I have been doing some initial home visits, putting paperwork together, and learning more about the population that we are serving.
I really enjoyed going to the CHEF gathering Tour at the beginning of the internship. I had a good time getting to know the other interns, Fahe Members, and the core values of Fahe. I really liked getting to see what this work is all about, especially learning all about Liberty Place Recovery Center for Women in Richmond, KY. I worked at a women and children only homeless shelter in Jefferson City, TN so I was able to make a lot of connections.
I am thankful I was able to have this amazing opportunity.
