As 2014 begins, we have decided to take a look back at 5 of our favorite blog posts of 2013.

#5 – East Corbin School Apartments provided 36 needed apartments for low-income seniors in Corbin, KY.  The construction of the apartments also provided 1/3 of the construction jobs in the area for the year.  The apartments were an adaptive rehabilitation of an existing derelict school building and features several energy efficient building techniques making the apartments cost effective and environmentally friendly.     East Corbin School

#4 – Fahe’s Jenna Urusky addresses the need for better homes in Appalachia by detailing a difficult part of her life growing up.  Access to clean drinking water and complete plumbing are two main issues faced by families in Appalachia even today.   Third World Problems

#3 –Lisa’s story of domestic abuse was particularly heartbreaking and unfortunately her story is fairly common in the area.  However, Lisa was able to get away from her husband, reestablish her life and obtain a new home for herself and her children with help from member Housing Development Alliance.  No More Old Pictures Hanging on These Walls

#2 –  Clem and Elmer have been brought up in quite a few conversations after we featured Eric Haralson’s special telling of ‘What is a Fahe.’  If you missed it the first time, here is a chance to read a unique and entertaining overview of what Fahe does for Appalachia.   What is a Fahe?

#1  – Who can forget Faith?  Her words help to remind us that even small actions to help our local neighborhood can make an impact, especially if everyone adopts Faith’s 5 point plan.  Faith was a favorite on Facebook and Twitter and you can watch her again here: Straight Talk With Faith

Thank you for taking a look back at some of our favorite moments in 2013.  We hope that you visit our blog often and join us in the creation of great memories in 2014.
