Summer is in full swing and it’s during this time that Appalachia is arguably it’s most beautiful.  Tourists specifically visit our section of the country during this time for the hiking trails, white water rafting, kayaking, camping, and a ton of other outdoor activities.

As a Kentucky native, I have a fondness for Red River Gorge but since I have ties to West Virginia, I have fond memories of Stonecoal Lake as well.  Hiking and camping have been passions of mine since I was young.  I’ve always enjoyed the calming beauty of nature and the sense of adventure that comes along with being several hours out from the nearest town.  As an adult, I enjoy it even more because it means a chance to disconnect from cellphone service and Internet and I can enjoy the day that is directly in front of me.

So as a visitor or even a permanent resident, what Appalachian activities do you enjoy during the summertime?   Is there a specific location that keeps you coming back year after year?  Or perhaps something about the area that grabbed you and wouldn’t let you leave?

We’d love to hear about your favorite summertime memories in Appalachia.   It’s important to reflect on and celebrate all the good that we find around us.  To share your story, just simply reply below.
