The Fahe Network consists of 50+ Member organizations, spanning across the Appalachian portions of Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Virginia, Alabama, and Maryland. During the best of times, these local leaders provide essential services to their communities including housing, economic, and community development. During times of crisis they stand with their communities, often increasing or modifying the types of services available to match the current need. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, the Fahe Network has served the region for 40 years Building the American Dream. This collaboration has invested over $1.5 Billion into Appalachia, which has directly impacted the lives of over 616,000 people. We are taking the time to celebrate each of these Members during our 40th anniversary, as we continue in partnership to ensure that no community is left behind.

Kingsport Housing and Redevelopment Authority—Kingsport, TN.

Since 1939, Kingsport Housing and Redevelopment Authority (KHRA) has served the most vulnerable citizens in their communities with a variety of programs including affordable housing, voucher and rental assistance, family self-sufficiency classes, life coaching, and redevelopment programs. KHRA serves communities in Sullivan, Washington, Hawkins, Unicoi, Johnson, and Greene County.

KHRA manages seven housing communities throughout Kingsport, including housing for the elderly and disabled.  KHRA also offers two self-sufficiency programs that lend a helping hand to residents working towards independency. Through their Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) Program, KHRA provides participants access to the resources needed to achieve sustainable self-sufficiency and greater economic freedom. The program offers a variety of services such as career counseling, job training, and financial planning for free and over a course of five years. Through their Homeownership Program, KHRA provides credit counseling, homebuyer education, and potential access to financial incentives such as down payment and closing cost assistance.

KHRA is also one of three Fahe Members in Tennessee participating in a partnership with Rural LISC to operate a Financial Opportunity Center (FOC) on the southwest Virginia and northwest Tennessee border.  The FOCs provide income support, employment coaching, and financial coaching.  The programs are designed to help participants secure living wage jobs, build credit, reduce debt, and gain wealth.   KHRA was a natural fit to operate an FOC with their years of experience in successfully helping individuals and families achieve their goals of economic independence.
