2020 marks Fahe’s 40th anniversary of building the American Dream. Over these four decades, Fahe has invested over $1.5 Billion which has directly changed the lives of over 616,000 people.  Our 50+ Members, all local leaders, are directly responsible for our ability to connect communities to investments and opportunity. As we celebrate our anniversary throughout the year, we are taking time to acknowledge and showcase our Members and highlight the important work they are doing which will impact the future of our communities for the next 40 years and beyond.

COAP, Inc. – Harlan, KY

When a devastating flood swept through Harlan County, KY in 1977, a grassroots inter-denominational relief effort sprang into action. In 1980, the relief effort transformed into Christian Family Housing Services with the goal of helping low-income families meet their housing needs. In 1983, an independent nonprofit corporation was formed, and by 1984, COAP, Inc. took over the role that Christian Family Housing Services was serving in the community.

Over the last 36 years, COAP, Inc. has been serving the residents of Harlan, Bell, and Leslie Counties in Eastern Kentucky. COAP, Inc. provides individuals, and families, with affordable, safe, and sustainable housing. Using the latest techniques in construction, COAP, Inc. strives to make homes as energy efficient as possible, whether new construction or through repairs to existing homes.

COAP, Inc. offers three primary services which includes new homes, homeowner repairs, and resell homes. Through their new homes services, COAP, Inc. helps individuals and families achieve their goal of homeownership without compromising safety or quality. COAP’s homeowner repair is their largest program. Through this program, low-income homeowners are able to make minor, or major, repairs to their homes. COAP, Inc. also has a variety of funding options for repair so their clients are able to choose the one that best suits them and their situation. Lastly, through their resell homes program, COAP, Inc. purchases homes in desirable locations to remodel. During the remodeling, the homes are brought up to the latest code standards as well as energy efficiency standards. Once complete, the homes are made available to purchase at a lower rate than new constructions.

COAP Inc. also a leader in the Network for the Appalachia HEAT Squad, a collaborative program between Fahe, NeighborWorks America, and Fahe Members which provides expanding access to energy efficient home improvements which save people money and extend the life of their homes.

COAP was featured as regional leader in Fahe’s 2016 Annual Report. To keep up with COAP, Inc.’s latest projects, or to learn more about their services, visit the links below:
