The year 2020 marks Fahe’s 40th anniversary of building the American Dream. The Fahe Membership has built a legacy of commitment and service to strengthening communities and improving lives throughout some of the hardest to serve areas in the country. Over the course of the year, Fahe will celebrate our accomplishments with our Members, Partners, and Friends while also taking a look at the next 40 years and beyond.
Today, Fahe stands not only as a backbone organization and staunch advocate for the needs of Appalachia but also serves as a national leader, collaborating with other high impact organizations serving persistent poverty areas around the country. Our service areas represent a collective voice of over 20 million Americans with diverse backgrounds who share a common hope for a better future. Collaborating with these trusted partners from around the country, we are working to bring crucial levels of investment and opportunity to the regions that need it most to ensure that no community is left behind.
Fahe was founded through the Human / Economic Appalachian Development (HEAD) Corporation as a regional housing entity focused on improving the lives of low-income individuals in Central Appalachia. Fahe was structured as a four-state membership organization and in its first ten years played a pivotal function enabling affordable housing providers to share experiences, form a unified voice, and share access to resources to develop quality housing.
40 years later, Fahe has grown in size, impact, and scope of vision far beyond the dreams of its founders. The Membership now serves the Appalachian portion of six states (KY, TN, WV, VA, MD, AL) with 50+ Members serving thousands of people each year and has invested $1.5 Billion into Appalachia, serving over 616,000 people. Holding tight to the cornerstone of affordable housing, Fahe has embraced a more holistic vision of what it means to serve our communities and provides services that encompass leadership, education, health and well-being, advocacy, and economic opportunities.
As we look forward to the next 40 years, we aim to go beyond what we’ve have achieved to attain even greater levels of impact so we can help build the American Dream for every community we serve.
We wouldn’t have been able to serve over 616,000 people without the support and dedication of trusted partners and friends, so as we grow our dream we invite you to join us in our yearlong celebration and to spread the word of the good work Fahe does each and every day. Please visit our 40th Celebration Page and share our stories and our vision of the future with your friends and colleagues. If you have photos, stories, or just fond memories associated with Fahe please share them with us via social media with the hashtag #WeAreFahe. We can be found on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Thank you and here’s looking to the past to build a stronger and better future for us all.
