502 and HOME: Serving Those Who Serve

JJ Montgomery

JJ Montgomery, a native of Hazard, KY, is a civil servant and a father who believes in serving his community. JJ gives back through church activities and his career as a safety officer with the Hazard Police Department.

JJ lived in an apartment with his mother and daughter. “I wanted something more for her,” said JJ. “It’s important to me that she has her own room and a safe home she can call her own.” He expressed that it’s important for his daughter to have room to play and grow in a neighborhood instead of an apartment complex.

Inquiries into home loans directed JJ to Fahe Member Hazard Development Alliance (HDA). HDA serves as lender, counselor, developer, and contractor for low-income persons in need of housing assistance. HDA helped JJ get a home for him and his little girl by utilizing a USDA 502 Direct mortgage loan and the HOME Investment Partnership Program (HOME). Both programs are designed to help low-income families obtain safe, quality housing at a rate they can afford. JJ’s new home provides his family with a sense of security, financial savings, and the ability to look to their future.

Since 2015, HDA has served 5 law enforcement families with home-ownership. These officers are able to focus on serving their community because they know their families have a safe, quality home.

“HDA cares about their community,” said JJ. “Someone can always use a helping hand, even police officers, safety officers, or EMS.”
